शिरशी (ता. शिराळा) येथे बिबट्याने हल्ला करून पळविलेले कुत्र्याचा जीव मालकाने बिबट्याचा पाठलाग करून वाचवला. त्यामुळे मुक्या प्राण्याविषयी असलेले प्रेम व मानवता अधोरेखित झाली आहे. शेतकरी सतीष महिंद यांचे कौतुक होत आहे.
याबाबतची माहिती अशी, २१ मार्च रात्री साडे अकराच्या सुमारास ही घटना घडली. शिरशीचा भाग असलेल्या महिंदवाडी येथे सतीश महिंद यांचे घर आहे. घराच्या आसपास शेती आहे. २१ तारखेला रात्री साडे अकराच्या सुमारास घरातील सर्व कामे आटोपल्यानंतर सतीश यांच्या पत्नी मनीषा दारात भांडी घासत होत्या. त्यांच्यापासून जवळच पाळीव कुत्रा मोन्या बसला होता. मनीषा भांडी घासण्यात व्यस्त असताना अचानक बिबट्याने हल्ला केला, आणि कुत्र्याला उचलले. प्रसंगावधान ओळखून काही क्षणात मुलगी राधिकाला घेऊन आरडा ओरडा करत घरात धूम ठोकली.
त्यामुळे झालेला गोधळ ऐकून सतीश महिंद धावत घराबाहेर आले. बिबट्याने कुत्र्याला नेल्याचे समजल्यावर ते बिबट्या गेलेल्या दिशेला बॅटरी घेऊन धावत सुटले. चार, पाच शेत ओलांडल्यावर त्यांना बिबट्या कुत्र्याच्या अंगावर बसलेला दिसला. त्यांनी आरडा ओरडा करत माती दगड बिबट्याच्या दिशेने भिरकावले. त्याच वेळी सीआयएसएफ मध्ये असलेले व सुटीवर आलेले भाऊ सुनील महिंद त्याठिकाणी मदतीस आले. त्यामुळे बिबट्याने जखमी कुत्र्याला टाकून पळाला. सतीश व सुनील कुत्रा उचलून मागे मागे फिरत असताना बिबट्याने पुन्हा हल्ला करण्याचा प्रयत्न केला पण तो फसला. महिंद बंधू जखमी मोन्याला घेवून घराकडे परतले. त्याची प्रकृती नाजूक असल्याने शिरशी पशुवैद्यकीय दवाखान्यातील डॉ. मुकुंद वाटेगावकर यांच्या करवी त्याच्यावर उपचार केले. आता मोन्याची प्रकृती सुधारत आहे.
अनर्थ टळला : बिबट्याने हल्ला केला त्यावेळी मनीषा यांच्याजवळच त्यांची मुलगी राधिका (वय ११) होती. बिबट्याने केलेला हल्ला कुत्र्यापर्यंत मर्यादित राहिल्याने दोघी मायलेकींचा जीव वाचून अनर्थ टळल्याची परिसरात चर्चा होती. या परिसरात वारंवार बिट्याचे दर्शन व पाळीव प्राण्यांवर हल्ल्यांचे प्रमाण वाढले आहे. वन विभागाने बिबट्याचा बंदोबस्त करावी, अशी मागणी आहे.

A leopard attacked and carried away a pet dog in Mahindwadi, Shirashi (Tal. Shirala), but its owner fearlessly chased the leopard and rescued the dog. This act of courage and compassion has highlighted the deep love and humanity towards mute animals, earning praise for farmer Satish Mahind.
Incident Details
The incident took place on the night of March 21, around 11:30 PM. Satish Mahind resides in Mahindwadi, a part of Shirashi, with agricultural land surrounding his house. That night, after completing household chores, Satish’s wife, Manisha, was washing utensils near the entrance. Their pet dog, Monya, was sitting close by. While Manisha was engrossed in her work, a leopard suddenly attacked, grabbing Monya and attempting to flee.
Sensing danger, Manisha quickly grabbed her daughter, Radhika, and rushed inside while raising an alarm. Hearing the commotion, Satish Mahind immediately ran outside and realized that the leopard had taken Monya. Without hesitation, he grabbed a flashlight and chased after the leopard.
After crossing four to five fields, Satish spotted the leopard crouched over the dog. Acting swiftly, he threw soil and stones at the predator while shouting loudly. At the same time, his brother, Sunil Mahind, who is in the CISF and was home on leave, arrived to help. Faced with resistance, the leopard abandoned the injured dog and fled.
As Satish and Sunil carried Monya back home, the leopard attempted another attack but was unsuccessful. They safely returned home with the wounded dog, whose condition was critical. Veterinary treatment was immediately provided by Dr. Mukund Wategaonkar at Shirsi Veterinary Clinic. Monya is now recovering.
Tragedy Averted
When the leopard attacked, Manisha’s 11-year-old daughter, Radhika, was standing nearby. Since the leopard’s aggression was limited to the dog, the mother and daughter were unharmed, preventing a major tragedy.
Locals report frequent leopard sightings and increased attacks on domestic animals in the area. Residents are urging the forest department to take immediate action and ensure public safety.
