Kapri, Taluka Shirala: The Forest Department of Sangli, under the Shirala Forest Range, organized a compensation distribution ceremony for losses due to wildlife attacks, crop damage, and human casualties.
On December 16, 2024, late Sarjerao Maruti Khabale was attacked by a leopard near Rethare Dharan village on the Manushyana-Peth Shirala road. He was critically injured and admitted to Krishna Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on December 20, 2024.
Due to special efforts by MLAs Sadabhau Khot and Satyajit Deshmukh Bhau, a compensation of ₹25 lakh was approved for the deceased’s family. Today, MLA Satyajit Deshmukh Bhau, President of Rayat Kranti Sanghatana, handed over a ₹10 lakh cheque to Mrs. Ujwala Sarjerao Khabale, a relative of the deceased.
Additionally, initial compensation for livestock loss, crop damage, and human casualty was distributed. Forest officials, including Ms. Nita Katte, Assistant Conservator of Forests Dr. Ajit Sajane, and Pardhi Saheb, were present at the event.
