Born on August 1, 1920, in Kasegaon, Walwa Taluka, Sangli District, he played a key role in transforming rural Maharashtra through his efforts in education, agriculture, and cooperative development. Personal Life

Early Life and Education:

  • Rajarambapu Patil was born on August 1, 1920, in Kasegaon, a village in Walwa Taluka of Sangli District.

  • He pursued his education up to LL.B. (Law).

  • During the 1942 Quit India Movement, he worked underground to support the freedom struggle.

Founding of Kasegaon Education Institute (1945):

  • Recognizing the importance of education in uplifting rural communities, Patil established the Kasegaon Education Institute in 1945.

  • He initiated secondary schools and colleges to create opportunities for the youth in Walwa Taluka.

  1. Sugar Factories:

    • Established cooperative sugar factories in Sakharale to ensure fair prices for sugarcane farmers.

  2. Dairy Development:

    • Founded the Walwa Dairy Union in Islampur to provide farmers with a fair market price for milk.

  3. Expansion of Cooperative Institutions:

    • Created a network of cooperative institutions, including sugar factories, cooperative banks, dairy unions, yarn mills, consumer stores, and water supply projects.

  4. Water Supply Projects:

    • Implemented innovative water supply projects to support irrigation and drinking water needs in villages.


Key Political Roles and Contributions:1952 to 1984:

  • 1952–1962: President of the South Satara District Local Board.

  • 1957: Secretary of Sangli District Committee.

  • 1959–1960: President of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee.


Legislative Career:

  • Elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from Walwa Constituency in 1962, 1967, and 1972.

  • Represented the Maharashtra Legislative Council from 1978 to 1984.
